Total number of beneficiaries:The project titled Enhance Safe Water through Awareness and Installing Deep Tube-well, managed by SLOPB Bangladesh, will increase awareness among 500 beneficiaries by installing 40 deep tube wells.
Purpose of the project:
- Achieve behavioral development of women, men and children in using safe water.
- Increase awareness about cleanliness among men, women and children.
- Making behavioral changes for a healthy lifestyle.
- Contribute towards achieving the SDG-6 goals of the government through this project.
Rationale of the project and relevance to the National Plan:
BauphalUpazila belongs to the Coastal Patuakhali District. Its area is 487 square km. This upazila is surrounded by many small and big rivers and canals. Bakerganj and BholaSadar on one side of the upazila. On the other handDashmina, Galachipa and PatuakhaliSadar. Formerly Charborhanuddin and LalmohanUpazila. The main rivers are Tetulia, Kalaia and Lohalia. The upazila has 15 unions and 147 villages. The total population is 3 lakh 4 thousand 9 hundred and 51. Of which 49.97 percent are male and 50.03 percent are female. Population density per sq km. There are 626 people. Education rate is 64 percent. The total number of families is 59,079. 98.88% of which is dependent on agriculture. The average family size is 5.16 persons.A large part of the population living in this upazila is living below the poverty line and the supply of clean water to the public in the area is insufficient. SLOPB Bangladesh is ensuring a safe water supply to the people of the area by bringing them under the scope of the project.
Rationale for Determining the Project Area:
The infrastructure of the project is created with the direct participation of the local community in a participatory manner considering the local context and needs. A specialized team of the agency, including representatives of the donor agency SLOPB Netherlands, visited the project working area and exchanged views with the local community to learn about local needs, potential and problems. Besides, the local people can learn about the goals and objectives of the donor organization SLOPB Netherlands. Finally, both parties agreed to implement the project in the proposed area in accordance with the provision of public water supply in the proposed project area. Local government representatives, government officials and NGO representatives were present on the occasion.
In order to provide advanced and comprehensive medical services to the public of the SLOPB Bangladesh BauphalUpazila, the proposal to purchase some necessary medical equipment and construct 8 more cabins due to insufficient cabin facilities is hereby approved.
