Thinking of his childhood, Motalib, thinking about the life journey of the orphaned and helpless boys and girls of the area from his humanitarian feelings, set up an orphanage in 2000 in Gazimajhi Union of his own upazilaBauphal, where 20 orphaned boys and girls find their new life. Here they find a new family. Here every child grows up with all their support. Later in 2005, he established another orphanage in Chandrapara, Bauphal with the help of donors. The orphanage is being run with the financial support of SLOPB Netherlands, Rotary Club Netherlands and various individuals in the Netherlands. Taking into account the socio-economic condition of the Bauphal area and preventing helpless children especially helpless girl children from child marriage and domestic work in other's houses to ensure a beautiful future for them and orphan children and very poor and helpless children are also given the opportunity to be admitted. At present 20 orphans (boys 10 and girls 10) are living in 2 orphanages and through this project, they get all kinds of facilities. So far 61 boys and girls are working in different institutions in different areas of the country after completing their education.
BauphalUpazila belongs to the Coastal Patuakhali District. Its area is 487.10 square km. This upazila is surrounded by many small and big rivers and canals. Bakerganj and BholaSadar on one side of the upazila. On the other handDashmina, Galachipa and PatuakhaliSadar. Formerly Charborhanuddin and LalmohanUpazila. The main rivers are Tetulia, Kalaia and Lohalia. The upazila has 15 unions and 146 villages. The total population is 3 lakh 4 thousand 2 hundred 84. Of which 47.50 percent are male and 52.50 percent are female. Population density per sq km. There are 624.68 people. Education rate is 57.1 percent. Of which 59.5 percent are male and 59.5 percent are female. The total number of families is 67,833. 98.88% of which is dependent on agriculture. Average family size is 4.48 persons.
A large part of the population living in this upazila is living below the poverty line and there are many orphans, helpless and distressed children in the area who have no parents or only the father or mother is alive but cannot afford to support and educate the children. Through this project, SLOPB Bangladesh is bringing all these orphans, helpless and distressed children under the project and giving them a new life.
The infrastructure of the project is created with the direct participation of the local community in a participatory manner considering the local context and needs. A specialized team of the organization, including representatives of the donor organization SLOPB Netherlands, visited the project work area and exchanged views with local communities to learn about local needs, opportunities and problems. Also, local people can learn about the goals and objectives of the donor organization SLOPB Netherlands. Finally, both parties agreed to implement the project in the proposed area considering the orphan children in the proposed project area. Local government representatives, government officials and NGO representatives were present on the occasion.
